IWSG Who Do You Write For?

Insecure Writers Support Group started by Alex Cavanaugh, please join us here.

Many thanks to this month’s hosts: Tara Tyler, Lisa Buie Collard, Loni Townsend, and Lee Lowery.

How’s it going, insecure writers? My writing life is meh as I’m more focused on my day job these days, but I do feel inspired by those of you bravely writing all the words.

The stellar performance of USA at Track and Field World Championships also stimulated me (when my cat, Tuxedo, allowed me to watch the events!)

August 3 question – When you set out to write a story, do you try to be more original or do you try to give readers what they want?

I don’t have a clue for how to write a story that readers want. All I know is how to write words that reflect my passions and interests. Only when an idea sparks my curiosity, a “What if…?” question, do I dive in to a novel. I need to write what excites me. If I worry about trends or try to mind-read what others might want, I’ll never start the damn thing.

Though I’ve taken a writing hiatus, an idea for my next novel has percolated for months. You probably haven’t heard of cognitive processing therapy for post-traumatic stress disorder, but it is the BOM-DIGGITY of psychological treatments. I’ve been so impressed by CPT’s effectiveness that I can’t wait to bring the protocol to life in a fictional story. Do readers want to read about a character’s therapy journey in healing from a tragedy? Hell, no! But I’m stoked to write it.

#IWSG This is the EXCITING Stuff! #BookSigning #CoverReveal

Happy October to All Writers.

Join us for the Insecure Writers Support Group, hosted by Alex J Cavanaugh HERE. We vent about our worries and support each other through the lonely journey.

After writing for nine months, I’m excited for the fun part: releasing a novel!

We are editing ACED (Blocked #2), a New Adult volleyball romance. We hope for a release date in November of 2015. The cover for Aced showcases hot Latino med student Alejandro Ramirez, and I’m eager to share it with the world.

Want to help me with the cover reveal on 10-21-15? Sign up HERE.

Over the weekend I attended the book signing, *Sassy in Savannah*. There was a huge turnout despite the rain plaguing South Carolina, and I had a blast meeting readers like Becca.

What’s your favorite book swag? I have bookmarks, of course, but I like to offer something more creative. I decided to buy volleyball key chains and print them myself, and they were a big hit.

After the book signing, we headed south for some sunshine in St. Augustine, Florida. It was beautiful visiting America’s oldest city. I am covered in mosquito bites. *itches*

Hope you have an opportune October!

Gratitude #Giveaway $10 Gift Card

Time for the Gratitude Giveaway hosted by Kathy.

What are YOU grateful for?

Positive psychology research shows that acknowledging our gratitudes can make us happier. So I’m giving you the opportunity to do just that in the giveaway.

I’m grateful for my two sisters. They’re fun, smart, kind, and beautiful. One of these days I’ll beat Laurie in Words With Friends (she cheats, I swear) and maybe I’ll cave to Susan’s constant cajoling for me to move near her in South Carolina.

I’m blessed to have siblings I call my friends. It makes all the teasing from childhood worth it!

And thank YOU, awesome readers, for making my new release Blocked a top seller among volleyball books.

New Adult Sleepover Weekend #NASW

It was a blast attending the New Adult Sleepover Weekend 12/6 – 12/8 in Savannah, Georgia.

For those of you unfamiliar with the genre of “New Adult”, it refers to novels with characters ages 17-27. And it often includes some smokin’ hot romance!

I brought copies of my NA swimming romance Streamline, and met some fabulous authors and readers.

I’d chatted with author RL Griffin online and read her intriguing novel By a Thread, so it was a pleasure to join her for the Suspense panel (my first author panel). We had a good diversity of genres represented, and my favorite comment was RL drawling, “Y’all, Streamline had so much drama it was like a Lifetime movie!”

RL Griffin, Jennifer Lane, SM Boyce, Dawn Robertson

Then came the book signing, where I celebrated my Navy novel:

Cap’n Lane

Saturday evening capped off with a pajama party. Here I am in my robe with the super friendly author Kelsey Ketch:

The best part of Savannah was seeing my sister Susan, who lives nearby in South Carolina. Oh, and the weather was pretty awesome too. Here are Susan and my nephew doggie Auggie:

The long weekend ended all too soon, and I had to return to snowy Ohio. Boo!

Thank you to Stella Price and Authors After Dark for organizing the New Adult Sleepover Weekend.
