I’m excited to co-host this month along with L Diane Wolfe, Jenni Enzor, and Natalie Aguirre. Happy writing to all.
April 2 question – What fantasy character would you like to fight, go on a quest with, or have a beer/glass of wine with?
I would like to have a beer with Westley from The Princess Bride (without iocaine powder added, I hope!) Not only is Westley clever, funny, mysterious, and tough, but he also portrays an air of vulnerability that draws people to him. Most endearing is his lasting love for the princess that helps him persevere through countless adversities.

*** New Release ***
My second short story, young adult sports romance BEHIND THE CATCHER’S MASK, launched on 3.29.25.

This story was part of the 2019 IWSG Anthology, Masquerade: Oddly Suited.
Thank you to Ronel Jansse van Vuuren for helping guide me with publishing wide for the first time, and I also appreciate fellow co-host Natalie Aguirre as well as IWSG founder Alex Cavanaugh for spreading the word!
It was nice to see the short-lived orange banner on the Amazon site for the obscure category I chose.

Novel in Progress Update: Low Water 45,000 / ~85,000 words
Thank you for co-hosting Jennifer. And, I loved your book, Behind the Catcher’s Mask. Five stars and I want MORE!

Thanks, Esther. You’re going to have to explain the phrase “total rabbit”. 😀 I know not everyone is as obsessed with sports as I am!

Rabbit ? Means totally useless , hard, soft, golf to baseball Then school started to offer more sports – loved fencing, judo, Ice skating was brilliant, especially as the teacher who knew how useless I am could not believe I’d never been to a rink. Figures, speed ? No falls ? How? Family backed me up. Never. She hadn’t asked about parks

Ha ha! Our book/movie boyfriends set a high (unrealistic) standard. Can you imagine a real-life man saying, “As you wish”? 😀

I’m one of those rare folk I guess who is not a big <i>Princess Bride</i> fan. I know I’ve seen that movie at least twice, but I never go into it that much. I think my wife’s tastes are rubbing off on me because she doesn’t really like fantasy tales.
All the best with your new release!

Congrats on your new release! I’d love to hear about your experiences self-publishing short stories. I love writing short, but I’ve never tried self-publishing any of my stories. It might be a way for me to dip my toe into that side of the industry.

Hi, Janet, both of my short stories were part of anthologies released by publishers, so I didn’t have to pay for editing. I did pay my awesome book designer for formatting and cover, and I only released an ebook (no print copy) since my story was about 7K words. My book designer said another author released a print copy as well as ebook for her 15K short story (novella?) Draft 2 Digital was a little difficult for me to figure out the first time, but it distributes the book to 10+ sites, and Amazon was easy since I’ve done it many times before. I did minimal marketing–I’ll do more for my next novel.

I wasn’t that impressed the first time I watched The Princess Bride, but then I watched it again and again, and I LOVED it! So many quotable lines, like,
Westley: “You’re that smart?”
Vizzini: “Let me put it this way. Have you ever heard of Plato, Aristotle, Socrates?”
Westley: “Yes.”
Vizzini: “Morons.”
Or, “Life is pain, Highness. Anyone who says differently is selling something.”
Or, “There’s a shortage of perfect breasts in this world. It would be a pity to damage yours.” 😀

A decade ago, I totally would have been with you on meeting Wesley. In recent years, I realized how much he talks down to Buttercup — or rather, changes his manner with speaking with her. That made me question how authentic he is. Hm. LOL.
