January 8 question – What started you on your writing journey? Was it a particular book, movie, story, or series? Was it a teacher/ coach/ spouse/friend/parent? Did you just “know” suddenly you wanted to write?
I enjoyed creative writing as a child, but it wasn’t until my 30’s when I became obsessed with the TV show, Prison Break. I scarfed down the entire first season before binge watching was a thing. Then I fell into writing fan fiction for the show, and I’ve been hooked on writing ever since. Wentworth Miller (yummy actor) was quite the inspiration!

I wrote fan fiction as well – but based on the Nancy Drew books, sadly no yummy actor to inspire me š

If you haven’t watched all of seasons one and two, Chrys, I think it’s definitely worth it to go back. Seasons three, four, and five pretty much suck. š

Ooh, Wentworth. Fanfiction is such a great thing – it lets us explore the writing thing in a less intimidating way – and the chapter-by-chapter feedback is so, so fun! I’m grateful to have you continue to do that for me as my crit partner on orignial works. š

Fan fiction is so fun to write. I’ve never seen Prison Break but heard great things. I should check it out. Your new site looks great!

Prison Break season one is some of the best TV I’ve ever seen. The second episode is a little intense for those who get squeamish, but after that it’s a cliffhanger every episode and rather smart writing, in my opinion. Thanks, Julie!

I love hearing where everyone’s inspiration can from to start writing on their own! I’m a lot like you – totally film junkie and admirer of moving images. Those are what inspired me, plus a few books here and there HP. š I think it was after I first saw ET that I thought it would be so cool to have created that world and those characters. Never thought I’d actually be doing it.

I love that scene in E.T. when the mom is reading to little Drew Barrymore, and ET is listening in. So sweet! Sure, books inspire us, but movies/TV can evoke even more emotion. How awesome for us to be able to create worlds and characters!
